Unity
Visual Identity For The Singapore Port Workers Union
The modern new logo and typography created for SPWU together comprise a union identity for the 21st century. An identity which is particularly appropriate for Singapore's first union, a union which has been and continues to be at the forefront of the nation's drive for excellence.
The Unity logo, which won an award (Click here to view the award), comprises of three elements:

The brush stroke circle stands for strength, stability and the harmonious relationship between SPWU and PSA.
Contained within the circle is the world, depicted in an abstract, watercolour style and evocative of photographs of earth taken from space. The globe element represents the world class quality and reputation of SPWU members, the individuals who run one of the largest, most efficient and highly respected ports in the world.
Anchoring the circle and globe elements is a strong, simple red stroke. The Chinese character "one", this unity stroke stands for the harmony, warmth and partnership of the union, as well as for the fact that SPWU is Singapore's first union.
Complimenting the unity symbol is a clean, modern typeface to depict the Singapore Port Workers Union's well-known acronym, SPWU. Using a customised font specifically created for SPWU, the typeface features a "P" drawn in the same style as the "P" in PSA, evoking the close ties between the two organisations. Overall, the typeface highlights the professionalism and sophistication of SPWU.
The colours used for the Unity identity are the same as those adopted by PSA Corporation - again, underscoring the close ties and harmonious relationship between the two organisations, but also representing the sea which is the source of union members' livelihood [blue] and the benefits of unionism [red].
